Seattle Here We Come!

We have picked June 1st as our target date to move up to Seattle. So that gives us three monthes to wrap things up with the house and stuff. If we are ready sooner we will go sooner or if we are not ready then we can push it back but June 1st is our goal. (yay!)

Chris had an interview this week up in Seattle and they are interested in him but want him to work on some stuff and come back. Apparently this is not uncommon with them, to have you go through the process a few times before they hire you. I think it is good that they have an interest and want to keep talking to him. They are a sucessful company and I guess you get there by being picky. It is nice they were very constructive with him and kept the door open.

I am kind of glad it worked out this way. There are so many opportunities in front of him and us that I am glad that we have some more time to explore those before he commits to a job. I think this company would be a great fit for him and I am glad they are interested in him but I am also glad that he has some time to work on his other projects, we can give ourselves some time to wrap things up. And we are not locked into a moving date at this point. Who knows if he had gotten the job how soon they would have wanted us to move up there. So all in all I am glad that it worked out this way. 

Project Runway

If you haven't watched your Tivoed episode yet then don't read this ;)

I am a little disappointed but not surprised that Rami went on to Fashion Week. I think Rami and Chris were a good tie and hard to pick between the two. I think that if Chris had chosen something a little less costume goth he would have gone on. I think Rami has talent but like Nina said I think he had some proportion issues in that jacket. She looked it like it was choking her and she wasn't comfortable with it. The other two dresses were not flattering on the girls bodies. meh, I didn't like it.

Chris outfits were out there. I didn't mind the hair, it gave a cool effect (sounds gross to say but looked cool). But the crushed velvet? Maybe it is from seeing too many cheap costumes in bags at the Halloween store but crushed velvet always looks cheap to me. I like his shiloettes and though it was creative to use different materials but I guess not as refined as Rami's. Though that flapper dress is awesome, I love it.

Oh well, like I said, a little disappointed but not surprised.

Rose

I missed out on the original Dr. Who seasons but I have really been enjoying the new seasons. I liked both new Doctors but mostly really liked Rose. And now in season three we are without Rose and I can't get back into it. I really miss her and feel I have to mourn her character before I can move onto season three.

I didn't realize I was so attached to her until I tried to move on. I would have named our puppy Rose but Chris didn't like the name. (P.S. if we had gotten the boy I wanted to name him Jean Luc after Patrick Stewart's Star Trek character)

So I want to get back into the series but I think I need a little more time to mourn.

Those of you who haven't seen it, you should give it a try, if you like that sort of sci fi/fantasy stuff, it is a good show.

PS I think it is mostly the relationship between Rose and the Doctor I miss. They were so great together even though they never really expressed how they felt about each other you could feel it. And like Nise said I cried expecially when the Doctor is about to tell Rose he loved her. OMG still makes me sad. I like to get into the stories I read and watch and this one really pulled me in.

Amazing!

We left Lola for six hours yesturday while we were out with friends. (Her previous record was 4.5 hours). And no accidents! Yay!

Later she peed in the bathroom (only about an hour after going out) but she felt bad about it and hey, it was technically in the bathroom, and on the tile. So no harm no foul.

So lets look on the bright side, she held it for six hours!!! Yay for blatter control!

Lola's new diggs

Here is Lola in her new bigger crate complete with the bumper and mat I made her.

JoAnns had this quilted fabric on sale (since it is valentine's dayish) and so I got inspired to make a bumper and mat for Lola. The mat fits the bottom tray and is reversible (the other side has little hearts on it) and after making a ghetto version I redid it and added a zipper for washing. I put a 1/2 inch foam pad on the inside just to be nice.

The bumper is just the quilted fabric folded in half and finished on the edges. I added bias tape ties but I placed the ties according to the crates full size measurements not thinking about how I would be making it smaller until she grows into it. Oh well. I am sure she will grow fast. Can you see it is quilted into hearts? Isn't it cute? Red is a very good color on Lola, she is a winter.

Then I made a cover for the crate so that it would be more cave like, she really seemed to like being in her other little crate, which was more cave like.

 

For this I just used some brown cotton and cut a top and four sides according to the measurement of the crate (plus a little extra to turn under). Each side can individually flap up for most options. (There is a side door we may use later.) I didn't add ties to this one but may need to eventually to keep it from slipping off.

Don't be fooled by her sad face, Lola loves her new condo. Now I can't get her out of it.

The small things . . .

Today was a big day. Lola laid in her bed and slept while I got to do some stuff in my office! This is a big deal because until last night she couldn't settle down unless she was in your lap or in her pen. Chris somehow got her to sleep next to him in her little $10 bed while he played a game. (awesome!) It has been nice to have her in here and not worry about her or have to pen her up just so she could nap. Yay!

Movies to see . . . .

Chris and I have been trying to watch more movies. There are so many that we have to catch up on and with the recent writers strike there hasn't been much tv to watch. This last week Chris rented I Want Someone To Eat Cheese With staring Jeff Garlin, Sarah Silverman and Bonnie Hunt. Despite my lack of affection for Sarah Silverman this was a really sweet movie.

Another sweet movie was Waitress with Keri Russel and Jeremy Sisto as her deadbeat husband (has he really ever played anything other than a strangely attractive ass hole?), and Nathan Fallon (whom my nerd friends will remember from Firefly). This movie is totally worth the rental and I am going to say even worth the purchase (mental note to purchase). Such a sweet movie. A nice story with simple storytelling and pleasant to watch actors. A good choice when you aren't sure what to rent. And what could be sweeter than watching Keri Russel (who totally grows on you in this movie) bake pies with poignant and quirky themes?

And if you aren't already in love with Amy Adams you will be after you see Enchanted. This movie is so worth watching. It looks like it is out on DVD now. I believe Amy Adams was nominated for an Oscar for her role. It is a sort of spoof on all the Disney princess movies I watch when I was a kid, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White. Disney the way it use to be when it was good. There is singing and dancing and lots of comedy. I can't recommend this one highly enough. I even bought the soundtrack for the cleaning song she sings. omg. Just go see it! It is awesome.

Stardust is another good one. It seemed to play better in Europe. The posters didn't make it look very interesting. Just another good movie lost to bad publicity and marketing. It is really sweet and funny too and Robert De Niro plays a gay pirate which is just awesome. (it isn't for a while so don't wait for it, just enjoy it when it happens).

Back from Cincinnati

Hello folks. Sorry for the lack of posts. Was away for the weekend helping a friend move into her new apartment. I had a blast and didn't want to leave. But now I am glad to be home. Always nice to sleep in your own bed with your own pillow.

When I left Chris gave me a "Weighted Companion Cube" (from Portal) that he found on Etsy so I could keep him with me while I traveled. It looks like a geeky rosery here. I love it. I thought it was such a clever part of the game it really makes me smile.

For Christmas I got Sarah a Hello Kitty Toaster. She saved it for this new apartment so we had Hello Kitty toast on our first morning there. It even stamps her face on it! The coffee wind chime is from her friend's mother. I think it is a really cool piece. And yes you can see right into the neighbors window so being neighborly Sarah called across to introduce herself. It made it a little less akward to be standing right next to someone making your breakfast and trying not to look at them.

This is my first plate of India food. I am sure I have had it before but I can't remember when so we will just count this as the first time. It was really good. We went to a buffet and I can tell you I went back a few times.

   

We had so much good food when I was there. Everytime I go home I am surprised how much good food is there. I wouldn't think of Cincinnati as a food place but it really is. I love it.

On the last day I went to the mall with my parents to just kick around and I found some awesome things. First a warm fuzzy hat that is too big for me but look how awesome it is! I will totally need this someday. And it was 50% off the sale price!

Then at Suncoast I found Zapp Brannigan and Khan from Star Trek! We have a Fry already, now we need to find Leela. I need a china cabinet to keep all of our rad toys in.

Reusable Bags

It looks like plastic bags are on their way out of some stores. Unclutterer wrote a piece about it and they linked to different sites where you can get reusable shopping bags. I really need to get on the ball with my own bags. I have an Etsy site with nothing on it. I have a website that has nothing on it. And I have a few bags made hanging on a rack. I just need to spend a few hours getting organized. Maybe during one of Lola's naps I can get in some work time. Really I just have to get over whatever is making me procrastinate. These are a few of the bags I have made and sold already. I have to take some pictures of the new bags. They are all the same in shape and size, just different in their color schemes. Well hopefully soon I can send you all a link to my Etsy site and my website with all my pretty bags on it. Until then . . . . .
